What is a Chit?

Dictionaries typically define a chit as “a short official note, memorandum, or voucher.”

Our use of the term is a piece of paper that a resident can obtain from any of several agencies, which allows the resident to pick up a load of free firewood.

The Chit is valid when completed, dated (and not expired), and signed by the agency, resident, and driver.

What do you need besides the completed Chit to get firewood? A means to transport the firewood from our Distribution Center to the resident’s home (a car or truck), and for the driver to permit a photo to be taken of their driver’s license. See also Distribution Center for when the Center is open.

Chit Front

Section 1 (top, white) of the Chit is completed and signed by the Agency. The Chit is then given to the named resident. The Chit expires one month from the date issued.

Section 2 (yellow) is completed by the resident. The resident must read the information on the Chit back and sign.

Section 3 (green) is completed by the driver who goes to the Distribution Center to pick up the firewood.

A. If the resident is also the driver, check the left blank.

B. The resident may give the Chit to a friend, relative, or neighbor to pick up the firewood for them. In this case, the driver should check the right blank and complete the contact information.

The driver must read the information on the Chit back and sign.

The driver exchanges the completed and signed Chit, together with a photo of their driver’s license, for a load of firewood

Do not print or copy the Chit. The above is for illustration purposes only.
