Qualifications
- You must be a resident of Transylvania County in need of free home heating firewood.
Why this restriction? Supply and demand. We do not have sufficient firewood to supply a larger geographic region at this time. Likewise, you must feel a need for free firewood to heat your home, so you don’t deprive those with a significant need for this limited resource.
- You must heat your home with firewood.
Again, why? Really, the same answer. If we supplied firewood for recreational or outdoor purposes, it would deprive others of needed warmth.
Limitations
- Firewood may be used ONLY for YOUR home heating.
- Firewood is FREE. Do not pay anyone for the firewood. Do not sell the firewood.
- 1 Chit allows loading 1 unit (e.g., car trunk) to 5 units (e.g., long-bed pickup) of firewood.
What is all this about a Chit? See explainer here.
- 1 Chit per household per month.
Obtaining Chits from several agencies, or by multiple residents of the same household, will not increase the amount of firewood available for that household each month or during the heating season.
- Maximum of 10 units (about 1 cord) of firewood per residence per heating season.
- All firewood is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Having a Chit does not guarantee that we will have firewood available for you to pick up.
- WNC FireWood Ministry and its volunteers assume no liability for any injury, loss, or damage that may occur as a result of the distribution or use of free firewood provided to residents.
